The Indirizzo’s thermae are still in good condition, it is one of the Roman buildings still visible in the city.

Their name derive to the former Carmelite convent of Santa Maria dell’Indirizzo, which are partially incorporated, indeed, it was rebuilt in 1727 on the ancient seventeenth-century structure and today is a school.


According to the legend, the name “Indirizzo” comes from the beam of light that addressed the ship of the Sicilian Viceroy Don Pietro Girone to the port of Catania during a storm.

It’s possible to see inside the original frame, consisting of ten indoors and some rectangular rooms, among them is easy to distinguish calidarium and frigidarium, the furnaces, the ventilation ducts, drainage and water harvesting canals.

The presence of the thermal building demonstrates how the city was developed in the late Roman era.
