It’s located on the second floor of the nineteenth-century palace in Via Sant’Anna, the apartment, where now is based the regional museum, before was the famous writer Giovanni Verga’s home, who was born and died here in January 27th of 1922. Inside, are preserved the intact furnishings and objects that belonged to the writer.
The Sicilian Region bought it in 1980 and used it as a museum. It has been declared national monument in 1940.
The first floor houses the “Verga’s Foundation“, instead in the second, where the writer’s home is located, there is the museum.
It’s important to visit the vast collection of over 2.600 volumes, that were owned by Verga, the original print of writer’s works, some period photos, photographic plates and films taken by Verga himself, that is what remains of his little unknown passion for photography.
On the walls there are also many portraits, including one made by Alessandro Abate for him and marble and bronze slab created by Giovanni Nicolini, there’re tributes to the writer for his eightieth birthday.
