Via Sangiuliano is one of the most typical and long street of Catania’s centre.
It is an obliged stop during the celebration of Sant'Agata.

It starts from the sea (Via 6 Aprile), it arrives to the “Quattro canti” (the cross between via Etnea and via A. Di Sangiuliano) and from here, it continues, steep and with a flooring in lava stone with some wide cracks between a plate and another, to become Via Gesualdo Clementi.

The last part of the street is named “Cchianata ‘i Sangiulianu” because it became very sloping. During the celebrations of Sant'Agata, the passage of the fercolo along this street is the most spectacular moment. The fercolo is hauled by running devotees and it reaches the summit of the slope among two wings of applauding crowd. This run involves thousand of devotees in white uniform. It is very dangerous and it often happens that someone is wounded.
To the summit of the slope, the fercolo goes to the Cathedral across via Crociferi, the most important baroque street of Catania.
