From Roman domination to the Baroque era, an itinerary among the unmissable palaces, museums and a sublime public garden to discover all the faces of Catania.
Start your journey from Piazza Federico di Svevia. Here you will be welcomed by the Ursino Castle, a Norman building once a defensive bulwark of the city, thanks to its ancient position close to the sea.
Proceed towards the Benedictine Monastery, one of the most representative monuments of the Baroque, included by Unesco in the list of World Heritage Sites.
The discovery of the seven wonders of Catania would be incomplete without a stop in the center to admire the fascinating Piazza Stesicoro and the Roman Amphitheater which it overlooks. Below the road surface of the square, in fact, the tunnels of the Roman amphitheater of the city wind their way - second in size to the Colosseum, it should have an external circumference of about 300 meters.
Surrounded by noble palaces, continue along Via Etnea and dive into the green lung of the city center, the Bellini Garden. Did you know that the garden, better known as Villa Bellini, once belonged to the family of the Biscari princes? It was donated to the citizens in 1854 and in the 1960s it even became the site of a municipal zoo.
Proceed towards via Vittorio Emanuele and visit the Abbey of Sant'Agata, the baroque style building is an artistic masterpiece of the architect Vaccarini. Inside you can admire the work of Ignazio Carnazza ''Il Crocifisso''.
And finally, end your journey of the seven wonders of Catania at the Massimo Bellini Theater, where the ''Norma'' by the famous composer Vincenzo Bellini was staged.
